In late 2025, a student of the University of Richmond initiated a women-only weaving centre in Pakistan. Later supported by the local STEP team, the centre integrates child care, health support, and rights awareness to improve working conditions in the country’s carpet sector.
STEP and Student-Led NGO Ravish Host Medical Camp for Weavers in Pakistan
Rachand, Sheikhupura, Pakistan – On September 15, 2024, STEP, as part of its Weaver Empowerment Initiative, partnered with the Ravish Organization to host a medical camp aimed at improving the health of local carpet weavers in Pakistan.
The lives of Western women in the rug industry have evolved over time. But for male and female weavers in production countries, more change is needed.
