EL HOUARIA COOPERATIVE
The El Houaria Cooperative opened its doors in 2016 with the aim of providing women from the village with access to stable and meaningful employment, while revitalising a region heavily affected by drought. From its inception, the cooperative has embraced a social and solidarity-based approach, placing people and artisanal craftsmanship at the heart of its activities.
The rugs are crafted from Moroccan wool, carefully selected for its quality. Each piece stands out for the finesse of its weaving, characterised by a high knot density and exceptionally meticulous finishes, reflecting outstanding artisanal expertise.
The cooperative follows a responsible model by reinvesting all of its profits back into the workshop. This approach enables the continuous improvement of working conditions, the development of production tools, and the creation of new employment opportunities for women.
Each rug is a unique piece, designed by Abdoul. Some creations require up to six months of work, bearing witness to the patience and high standards devoted to every piece. No two creations are alike: each design expresses its own identity and artistic vision. Conceived as true works of art, these rugs are intended to be hung on the wall like paintings and to become central decorative elements.
The cooperative does not limit itself to rug making. It also develops a range of textile objects — bags, poufs, and cushions — crafted from rugs, following a logic of material valorisation and reuse. More recently, it has expanded its universe with the launch of a knitwear collection.
